Ah,
another month drifts by.
But
this time I'm not about to get maudlin, despairing at
the passing of time and the certainty of ageing. In
fact the months can't pass quickly enough - bring on
the light nights and warmer weather!
After
months of arriving and leaving the office in the dark,
wearing the waterproof bright orange jacket and making
sure batteries are fully functional there is, if you'll
pardon the pun, light at the end of the tunnel. For
a few weeks now the morning commute has been conducted
in daylight, and slowly but surely the evening ride
home has been catching up.
It's
at this point I really start to enjoy riding every day
- you maintained the effort through all of the weather
which confirmed to your colleagues that you were last
in the queue for the handing out of common sense, but
that hard work pays dividends. Riding in the spring
and summer suddenly becomes a breeze. Dry roads 'neath
your wheels, an absence of -10 headwinds, and a shedding
of layers and the joy of cycling returns.
In
a few months, as you chat with your colleagues who have
sat in baking heat in their cars for an interminable
time, moving at 3 miles an hour, cursing their lack
of air conditioning, at this point the pendulum of common
sense swings back to the bicycle.
And
I can't wait...
