So here we have it. Issue 48 of citycycling, meaning that by the end of this month we will have been pootling about on the information superhighway for four years.
And this issue finally sees a lot of the plans we've had for a while coming to fruition, with an expansion up to 50, virtually ad-free, pages and lots of lovely little extras dotted about throughout.
And why do we do it? Because we love it (it's certainly not that we make any money out of it!), and because we genuinely want to see some changes made out there. Not just in the UK, although it would be a nice start for personal cycling reasons. At the moment here there are still some people who look at you as if you're odd when you're on a 'normal' bike. Defer from that in any way and you are merely accentuating your strangeness.
I've recently ridden a couple of cargobikes, a folder in a race, a recumbent trike, a couple of different two-wheeled recumbents, and at home swap regularly between a geared road bike, a fixed wheel, and a mountain bike, with a 70 year old bike waiting in the wings for its restoration.
I love them all, and ride according to me mood. I have favourites, but I also have times when I crave something else. I'm happy. No matter what I ride.
We need more people smiling.
