.so
tell us some more about the show
I
try to cover any aspect of cycling that interest me
or that other people seem to be interested in. From
Le Tour to commuting to bike messenger films, from Kraftwerk
to testing bike bells in the studio to the future of
the Herne Hill Velodrome. What has worked particularly
well in my opinion are the interviews done while riding.
We've had some really interesting guests, and it's always
the unexpected things that happen on a ride that provide
the most interesting material in an interview. For the
next season of shows I'm working on a radio interpretation
of French pataphysician Alfred Jarry's The Passion of
Christ As An Uphill Bike Race, a special feature on
Tim Krabbe's novel The Rider and much more.
.is
it hard thinking of ever more music that can be linked
to cycling?
I
guess there are only so many good songs that are linked
to cycling. But I keep discovering new ones, especially
in other languages like French and Italian. Even Japanese!
We've still not had to resort to Queen's Bicycle Race
on the show, so clearly we're doing OK. Maybe a compilation
album is in order.
.have
you ever managed to blag free kit from a shop owner
you've interviewed?
Nope
never. Not even a discount. Bike shop owners are notoriously
tight, aren't they? And to be honest, I'm not much of
a blagger, either. |
