.mp simon burns .mp unhurt in crash

Good news from London as Conservative MP thankfully emerged unscathed from a crash outside Westminster. Gosh that was lucky.

At least that's what the BBC website would have had you believe. What you have to read further to find out is that Mr Burns was driving a Range Rover at the time and was involved in a collision with a cyclist. While an air ambulance was called in for the cyclist in his 20s, a police spokesman let us all know the joyuous news that "The vehicle stopped at the scene, the male driver was uninjured."

It was perhaps a quote taken out of context, but to those reading it at face value it was another example of making excuses for a motorist.

It appears, however, that the MP was pulling out of the car park at Parliament, allegedly without really looking, and the cyclist took evasive action. This involved him locking the front wheel, throwing him over the handlebars and into the car.

Apparently a police investigation is under way, but there has been no more news since the incident at the start of April.
