He has been made aware of what this Company expects from their driving staff, and with this in mind I will arrange for covert checks to be carried out by qualified staff from our Driving Standards Office to ensure that he carries out his daily duties to the high standard that this Company expects from all their professional drivers.

May I thank you for taking the time to inform Lothian Buses of this matter and if you have any further problems in future, then please do not hesitate to contact the Company.

Yours sincerely

Now while I was cheered to receive a response, and hear that the driver had at least been spoken to, there were a few things that just didn't add up.

My video shows the bus clearly pulling into the cycle reservoir with a light at red long before he reaches them. And I know exactly how close he was driving behind me. So my initial thought on the point that their CCTV coverage conflicts with the 'evidence' I have felt like something of a brush off.

Added to that, and this is the main point I feel, if the evidence was contradictory why did they then feel the need to interview the driver? That makes no logical sense. And all of this over a minor point of a slight lack of courtesy on the roads. It just feels like LRT are trying to sweep any possibility that they might have a driver in the wrong under the carpet.

So at the risk of being a green-inked pain in the arse, I've sent another email:

Dear Mr X

Thank you very much for your email regarding a 'complaint' I had raised with regard to one of your drivers. I was very pleased to hear that the driver in question had been spoken with and it is good to hear also that Lothian Buses takes matters as this so seriously.

However, one thing confuses me slightly. You indicate that the CCTV coverage in the bus shows the situation I described to be incorrect. If this is the case I was wondering why you then carried out the interview with your driver? If your CCTV coverage showed that there was no wrongdoing on his part than surely the interview had no purpose?

I was also unaware that the CCTV cameras covered outside the bus, but this is a good step in the right direction (and I presume at least therefore shows that the driver moved into the cycle reservoir long after the traffic lights had turned red.

Many thanks for your help in this matter. As stated in the original email this wasn't necessarily a major issue, but betrayed an attitude verging on intimidation that is particularly effective when in charge of something the size of a bus.

Regards

I'm not convinced this will garner any further information, but rest assured, I'll let you know if any further responses are received.
