At this point I was still in front of the bus on the road, but I am glad that I didn’t move right to pass the slowing car as your driver clearly wanted to continue his intimidation of the car, passing with less than a foot to spare, accelerating hard.

I noticed that the bus was empty, with the interior lights off, and the driver did a U-turn at the small roundabout just before Regent Road, so was clearly heading back to the depot, and was in a rush not to miss his tea.

As a regular, confident and experienced cyclist, as well as a regular driver, it is perhaps lucky for your driver that I read the situations and did not end up under his wheels. Indeed, for the company (and directors), in light of recent changes to the corporate manslaughter (culpable homicide in Scotland) laws it’s lucky for quite a lot of people (especially as I am one of a growing number of cyclists who film their commutes through unfortunate necessity).

As I said earlier, the initial pulling out without looking I would normally shrug off, but the subsequent actions (showing general disrespect for other road users, and simple intimidation with the car in front) made me feel compelled to write.

Now I had hoped that they would realise this wasn't a 'life or death' incident, but one which backs up the likes of the arguments by our Invisible Cyclist, that there really just isn't the respect for each other on the road that there should be, and that would prevent anger, frustration and resentment.

To my surprise a message was received the following day. Unfortunately, however, it was disclaiming all knowledge of the bus.

Dear Mr Robson

Thank you for your email.

To help us investigate your complaint can you please confirm the date of this incident? As the registration number you have supplied us does not match any of our vehicles and the only service that terminates at Waterloo Place is a Service X25 which only operates Monday – Friday.

We await any further assistance.

There was a whiff of 'cop out' in the air. I checked the video once more, and had to concede that the registration could have ended 'DGT' rather than 'OGT', and replied the same day saying this.

And since then?

Radio silence.
