.fredcast

Given how bad we are here at citycycling in keeping our little blog updated, the idea of a weekly podcast on cycling, while attractive, is just waaaaaaaay beyond us. Thanks, therefore, must go to 'Fredcast', which bills itself as 'The internet's premier cycling podcast'.

While the focus of the site is naturally on the pdcast itself, as a weekly digest of news and cycling snippets, there is behind the show a well-updated blog (again we feel ashamed) covering all sorts of cycling issues, a few photos, some details about the creator of the Fredcast, David Bernstein, and show notes for each week - basically a contents list of each show.

Throughout everything is a sense of just enjoying cycling, and caring about the issues surrounding the leisure activity and sport, all pulled together with the knowledge that you'd expect from from a former bike industry executive.

But one question remains, why 'Fred'cast? "Several internet dictionaries define a “Fred” as a person who spends a lot of money on his or her bike and clothing but still can't ride... I have always taken the term as one of endearment and not one of scorn, since I usually ride faster than those who call me a Fred and so it has become a badge of honor. The FredCast is devoted to all those who have ever been called a Fred by so-called “real” cyclists."

That answers that then...
