.on the aviemore merida

So how many of you have fallen for the annual habit of setting out a new collection of cycling goals which you want to achieve in the New Year? Personally I prefer to look back, see the mistakes I made and how to remedy them, and see what went right and make sure I try to do more of that.

In 2007 I entered my first audax, and enjoyed the friendly comradely feel to everything. I also indulged in some long distance mountain biking in a Merida Marathon event and managed to put myself off mountain biking for a good few months after getting a completely different vibe to that found on the audax. I'm also now a fully-fledged fixed wheel commuter, and have learned that the advanced warning it gives you that you're about to fall off in slippy conditions doesn't necessarily mean you can do anything to stop it.

But above all else I've had it confirmed to me that, in the city, the bike still makes perfect sense for my lifestyle, my health and my state of mind.

And I can only hope for more of that in 2008.

Happy New Year folks.
