Every month we bring
a site which has caught our eye to these pages. It
could have anything at all to do with cycling. It
might be serious. It might be frivolous. But whether
it makes us think or laugh (or both) there really
is a wide world out there to explore!
There's
a bike I pass almost every day on my way to work.
If I don't see it in the morning I can almost guarantee
seeing it locked up outside the office down the street
when I go wandering at lunchtime. It's nothing grand,
a white-framed Velo Ecosse, clearly a daily commuter,
but there's something about it that catches my eye
every time.
And
now I know what to do with my appreciation. I need
to let the owner know that their bike is 'hot'.
Your
Bike Is Hot has a glorious premise: "Reward
good taste: print out “your bike is hot”
cards and stick one in the next hot bicycle you roll
by. Leave a note; be anonymous; make your own card.
It doesn’t matter. You know what matters: hot
bicycle proliferation."
And
that's it.
There's
no snobbery involved here, and no preference for fixed
wheel, or mountain bike, or recumbent, or any other
flavour of bicycle choice. If you happen to think
that a bike is 'hot' that's really all that matters,
because you can almost guarantee that the owner of
the bike will agree with you.
I
now plan to arm myself with 'Your Bike Is Hot' cards
and deliver a strong message of support to the people
who "... do right by the neighbourhood when
you mount gleaming wheels."
What
a marvellously simple idea.
