A collision of ideas driven by a mild-mannered man in a very SmallCar®!

I’ve decided that I don’t like city driving very much. You know, I think it’s getting worse while the ads promoting it are getting better. I mean I have the right SmallCar® equipped with SatNav, CD, hands free, and a Talex radar trap detector. Yet a lot of the time I don’t seem to be moving. I’m sorely tempted to squeeze the SmallCar® through the gaps beloved by my two wheel friends. I honestly think it should be legal for my car with it’s small environmental footprint to use bike lanes! Look at this way, I’m never going to cycle but at least I don’t drive something big and nasty from Chrysler or T*y*t*!

Like most of you, I dislike everyone else on the road. Especially when I’m in a hurry. But unlike you I only get to see the back of the car in front as I crawl to work at walking pace. It is so depressing. The one thing that does brighten any journey up though, are cars with odd plates. (Pointed out to me by MR 5P33DY in issue 9). Some are short and easy to remember such as red Toyota reg T3 VSE that drove straight through a red light and got far too close to my SmallCar®. Some are very odd indeed. Such as a BMW with X8 HAY that I saw recently. What exactly was it that Mr Hay was exiting from? A job, a partner, the car park at Asda? In truth it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that the car and plate are memorable, a bit of fun and help identification. They are also an encouragement to drive safely.

Or are they?

One car that caught my imagination was plated L8 MUM. Is this plate a warning that the driver is on the ‘school run’ and in a hurry so get out my way? The tinted windows are a nice touch so that other drivers cannot see in. The epitome of a ‘look at my car, but don’t look at me’ vehicle.

But here’s something else about number plates you may not know.
