.the numbers game

The other day I took the Sustrans route to work.

Okay, only a little bit of it, but....

One of my routes is a 4 mile ride which heads along a cyclepath (which is actually usually pretty quiet going to and from work). About a mile and a half from work I come off this turning left onto a main road and ride in from there to the office.

This main road has a bus lane - I love bus lanes - and then despite a really stupid cycle lane later on that puts you in the middle of some traffic it simply involves another left turn, and two right turns (one of which is into the car park).

The NCN1 route is signposted on the cyclepath, having come in from South Queensferry, and carries on over the bridge across the main road I normally ride on. So this morning I decided to follow it since NCN1 also goes past the front door to my office.

I descended over the road into a housing estate where I wiggled left and right through the residents' parking, before being placed on a shared-use, two-way path. This leads to an office complex so I was pootling behind some people walking to work, not wanting to ride on the landscaped grass to the side - this path goes between the office building and the railway line.

Coming out onto a small road this lead up to the main road which I would have been on anyway, but turning left AWAY from the centre of town and my work. You then turn right into the 2nd road on that side, right again a 100 yards up, through a crescent, left then up to a set of lights where you turn right, I can then, 100 yards further on, turn right into my car park.
